Guest Blogger Erin O'Rielly - Blérancourt Trip - Postcards & a Reception

Today was a short day.  Everyone got to sleep in a bit since we didn't meet in Blérancourt until 10 am.  With Patrick's help, the children learned how to properly write and address a postcard.  We sent them as soon as they were complete.  The kids may even be the ones to get them from the mailbox in California, since their parents won't receive them before the children are home.

After writing postcards, the students worked on counting their money.  They added up all of their receipts to see how much they spent and check how much they had left.  It was a great exercise on budget and mental calculations as well as good practice on recognizing the different Euro coins and bills.  These two activities took up all of our morning, and the children were picked up at 12 noon for lunch and the afternoon with their host families.  Each family had something special planned for the last free afternoon with the children.

This evening we met at the "Salle des Fêtes" in Blérancourt for a celebratory reception hosted  by the Mayor of Blérancourt for all of the host families and the children.  It was nice to see everyone together discussing the time that we have spent together during the exchange, both in Blérancourt and in Palo Alto.  Even families who have hosted in the past came to join us.  I can't believe that we only have one more full day before we head home.  The trip has really flown by!
