Sensei William Desmoles was there to coach them, as well as two judoka (the name for a judo player) from his other Judo Club at La Lycée San Francisco, and Sensei's son, Kevin. Some INTL alumni were also at the competition.   [![](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/hs-fs/hubfs/Miscellaneous/Imported_Blog_Media/KF-in-bout-300x225-1.jpg?width=300&height=225&name=KF-in-bout-300x225-1.jpg "KF in bout")](http://blogs.istp.org/blog/2012/10/08/istps-judo-team/kf-in-bout/)     [![](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/hs-fs/hubfs/Miscellaneous/Imported_Blog_Media/Ian-in-bout-300x225-1.jpg?width=300&height=225&name=Ian-in-bout-300x225-1.jpg "Ian in bout")](http://blogs.istp.org/blog/2012/10/08/istps-judo-team/ian-in-bout/)   Katie and Ian's mom, Cee, said of the event, "it was very well-attended, with hundreds of judoka from all over Northern California. Perhaps it was inspired by judo at the Olympics this summer? From registration at 8:00 a.m. through watching the black belts compete from about 4:00 p.m., this was an intense day!" Judoka are divided into pools of about 8, sorted by skill (belt color), age and weight. Each judoka then competes about 3 times within their pool. While our team did not bring home any medals this time around, the experience was well worth it and we are excited for INTL's judoka to continue competing this year! \*In 2020, the International School of the Peninsula (ISTP) formally changed its name to Silicon Valley International School (INTL) to better reflect its bilingual programs, location, and international values. related posts [![recent-blog-post-image](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/hubfs/Miscellaneous/Imported_Blog_Media/judo1-2.jpg)](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/2013/12/01/istp-judo-club-lessons-sportsmanship-palo-alto-judo-tournament) [Community](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/tag/community) ##### [Judo Club: Lessons in Sportsmanship at Palo Alto Judo Tournament](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/2013/12/01/istp-judo-club-lessons-sportsmanship-palo-alto-judo-tournament) [![recent-blog-post-image](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/hubfs/Miscellaneous/Imported_Blog_Media/ISTP_Cohn_Nov2014_6348_Cloned%20copy.jpg)](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/2011/08/22/welcome-istps-new-faculty-members) [Community](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/tag/community) ##### [Welcome INTL's New Faculty Members!](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/2011/08/22/welcome-istps-new-faculty-members) [![recent-blog-post-image](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/hubfs/Miscellaneous/Imported_Blog_Media/Rams-in-Pagoda-620x413-1.jpg)](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/2015/03/16/guest-blogger-gary-meeker-istp-makes-an-impressive-showing-at-sf-cny-parade) [Community](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/tag/community) ##### [Guest Blogger Gary Meeker: INTL Makes an Impressive Showing at SF CNY Parade!](https://blog.siliconvalleyinternational.org/2015/03/16/guest-blogger-gary-meeker-istp-makes-an-impressive-showing-at-sf-cny-parade) ### Silicon Valley International School #### The premier bilingual International Baccalaureate school in the West Coast.
